Bio
Matthew is a multidisciplinary artist and architect working across abstract art, site-specific installations, and spatial design. Educated in Engineering and Architecture in Malta, he also holds an M.Sc. in Project Management (Aberdeen) and an M.A. in Fine Arts (Digital Arts) from the University of Malta. Through his studio practice, he integrates technologies such as drones and 3D printing. He served as architect for the Malta Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale 2019 and Creative Lead for the Maltese Pavilion at the London Design Biennale 2023, shaping his international perspective. His research examines the intersection of technology, visual art, and human experience, with a recent focus on how abstraction can influence urban design. Inspired by Italo Calvino, his work explores temporality, memory, decay, and order emerging from chaos through cycles of form, destruction, and reassembly. His projects include Retapestry (Arts Council Malta-supported) and a deconstruction-based abstract series. In 2023, he won Premju għall-Arti for Best International Achievement.
