Bio

Tara Lois Mansell is a trained goldsmith and award-winning designer who creates striking bespoke jewellery that transforms personal stories into wearable art. Based in Gozo, she works primarily for international clients on commission, who know her as Tara Lois Jewellery.
Her studio practice includes:
• Bespoke Design – Redesigning heirlooms or crafting one-of-a-kind pieces that honour life’s most meaningful moments.
• Collection Jewellery – Limited edition, ready-to-wear designs that reflect Tara’s signature use of colour and narrative.
• Institutional Commissions – Creating distinctive pieces for organisations, including a collection for Malta’s new national contemporary art museum, MICAS.
• Workshops – Offering hands-on experiences that invite others into the creative process.
Tara is known for her use of vibrant colour through traditional enamel techniques such as cloisonné, plique-à-jour and champlevé — meticulous processes that fuse ground glass to metal at high temperatures. Her contemporary aesthetic is often enriched with handmade Maltese filigree, blending local tradition with modern design.
Committed to sustainability, she carefully sources her materials and embraces the creative challenge of redesigning unwanted jewellery.
Tara’s journey began in France, followed by classical goldsmithing training in London through the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’. She later graduated in Jewellery and Metal Design from the University of Dundee in Scotland.
Her work has earned multiple international awards, including the Goldsmiths’ Centre Award for Excellence in Craftsmanship and a Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Award — widely known as the “Jewellery Oscars.”
