Bio

I am Michela Debono, a textile techniques educator and researcher with over ten years of professional practice in sewing, lace making, weaving, and embroidery. I am currently a full-time lecturer at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST), where I teach across a range of textile and craft-based programmes, with a strong emphasis on material literacy, process-led learning, and the contemporary relevance of traditional skills. I hold a B.Ed. (Hons) in Nutrition, Family and Consumer Studies, as well as a Master’s degree in VET Fashion and Textiles. I worked as a secondary school teacher, teaching Home Economics and VET Fashion and Textiles. In addition, I taught part-time at the University of Malta, delivering I Belong, a programme dedicated to teaching Maltese culture to third-country nationals. Through this experience, I deepened my knowledge of Malta’s rich history and cultural heritage. I also studied lace-making under the guidance of Mr Carmen Ellul and Dr Consiglia Azzopardi.
