Bio
Becky Grech graduated in product design in 2010 and got a master in 2022 in Industrial design. In 2013 discovered shoe making and commenced by getting familiar with the literature and tutorials available online, in 2018 (after having started working as a product design lecturer) attended a short shoe making course in London and back in Malta she was an apprentice with one of the few remaining shoemakers. Becky aims to preserve a craft which is becoming scarce to learn and designs one off shoes following two shoe construction techniques, the ‘ideal method’ or ‘San Crispino method’ and the ‘Glued construction method’. Her design language is diverse and representative of her confluent character. Her experimentation is never ending and nearly ten years from the discovery of her passionate design craft, she is now developing her own making methods, tools, and techniques, earnestly striving to be sustainable and innovative.
